The Pain is Endless
by Jan Michael Alejandro
(Read & Japanese Translation
by YoshiKo Fuji)
The pain....seemingly everlasting.
Songs, places and scents are constant reminders of times we once shared.
The emptiness, like a gutted structure, once a home filled with laughter and love.
I have no best friend. Best friends are situations in movies and children’s books.
The pain is great. It brings me to my knees.
It stifles any ideas of recovery.
I lie in bed, for there is no safer place for me to be.
Pity, doubt and anger are foremost in my dreams and thoughts.
My thoughts are my worst enemy, more than drugs, more than booze, more than beating my fists against the concrete wall until my hands are bloodied.
The pain is endless. It brings me to my knees.
I lie in bed, for there is no safer place for me to be.

“Jan Michael Alejandro’s poetry is infused with sheer rhythmic vitality. Fasten your seatbelts—this is one gritty, humorous, dog lovin’, mind and sun reflecting, ride.”
Jane Ormerod/ Uphook Press NYC
“Jan Michael Alejandro is a creative hurricane launching Cat 5 power into poetry, music and playwriting--sometimes all three at once! His capacity for understanding the human condition runs deep, and what may appear simple on first encounter blossoms like a beautiful exotic flower on repeated listening or reading. Alejandro gets to the core of emotions without giving it away. When you read a poem of his, or see one of his plays, its echo will come back to you a day or a year later, shedding a fresh new light on your own secret self.”
